A little about me
I have a dream: to spend a year traveling around the world with my husband and kids, then return to our own home in Carpinteria, Ca.
I already have an international background. Growing up in New Zealand developed my openness to different opinions and my respect for the values of other cultures and other ways of doing things.
The New Zealand lifestyle also drew me to ocean and the outdoors. No wonder then that one of my favorite hobbies is surfing - as well as enjoying all the other outdoor activities that Santa Barbara has to offer. And Carpinteria is also an easy jumping-off point for surfing vacations in Mexico. Adventure and fun aside, my professional background is as varied as my personal life. It ranges from being art director for my local Trader Joes - providing the quirky graphics for their signs - to acting as in-house marketing and design manager for a law group, to starting my own business, Three Feathers Design.
I started my creative education in arts and design with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts at San Francisco State University where I built a solid background in graphic design, interactive digital media design and product design technology. Additional training at HOW Design University, on breakthrough logo design and branding success sharpened my design skills.
Long before I entered the design world, I learned valuable lessons about hard work, and the importance of quality of services and products in keeping customers happy. First when I delivered newspapers at age 9, and then as a shift supervisor at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, working my way through college.
People often ask what is the meaning of "Three Feathers?". Little did I know that Fedders is a hard name for people to understand when said aloud, especially over the phone. After getting married and changing my last name I remember laughing with my in-laws one day about all the different interpretations people come up with, Setters, Fetters, Feathers. When I started my business we were only a family of three at the time and so, Three Feathers Design was born!
